The Tidewave™ pressure ulcer mattress automatically turns patients prone to pressure ulcers (decubitus), which improves the quality of patient care and provides good relief for the nursing staff.

The mattress redistributes the pressure that causes bedsores with a smooth, automated movement. The patient is moved laterally and continuously in sequences lasting from 20 to 60 minutes.

The mattress is ergonomically designed and bends around the sides of the patient's body. This prevents patients from falling out of bed and distributes body weight over a larger area, reducing peak stress points. The patient feels safe and comfortable in the Tidewave pressure ulcer mattress.

The product is available for children up to 40 kg and for adults up to 150 kg.

About pressure ulcers

Pressure sores can develop within minutes and turn into large open sores down to the leg. It can take years to treat and even cause more deaths than traffic accidents.
1 in 5 patients in European healthcare institutions suffer from pressure ulcers due to insufficient redistribution of pressure. The damage occurs when the nutrient and oxygen supply is impaired due to a pressure or pressure combined with the skin shifting against the underlying tissue, so-called shear.

In the absence of regular movements, soft tissue is squeezed between the bone and the support surface. This causes deformation of the soft tissue to such an extent that the tissue cells burst and die. As pressure ulcers develop, severe, painful and open ulcers can develop, which can lead to longer hospital stays, higher readmission rates, increased mortality and reduced quality of life. It is estimated that around 4 million people in Europe currently suffer from the effects of pressure ulcers. In the risk zone are all those with reduced physical ability to change positions.

The risk increases if you:

Are over 70 years old
Has undergone a major operation or is in the intensive care unit
Is malnourished or overweight
Has poor blood circulation
Have a reduced sense of pain (e.g. spinal cord injury and neurological condition)
Previously had pressure ulcers

What is the challenge with manual repositioning?

What is the challenge with manual repositioning? People with very little or no agility in bed need a lot of help around the clock, which naturally requires a lot of resources. To prevent pressure ulcers, the patient must be regularly placed in a different position, which is labor-intensive and often associated with ergonomic concerns for the nursing staff.

There are several challenges with this routine:

The patient has disturbed sleep and may experience pain and discomfort when turning. The skin may be exposed to friction and shear forces.
Nursing staff spend a lot of time on heavy lifting, which can lead to occupational injuries and sick leave.
